Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book an appointment?

Appointments are exclusively available to residents only and must be booked via the Grantley Hall Reservations Team in advance of your stay.

Appointments are subject to availability. Folk Finders is a two-person team and as such, services may not be available during periods of personal holiday or existing commitments. Early booking is highly recommended.

Where are the appointments held?

All genealogy consultations with Folk Finders (Phil and Bev) are held at their dedicated offices in Pateley Bridge, approximately 15 minutes from Grantley Hall. Their office is equipped with specialist software, large display screens and extensive local history resources essential for delivering the best possible research experience.

How do I get to-and-from my appointment?

Guests are responsible for their own transport to-and-from the Folk Finders office. For those without access to a vehicle, Grantley Hall can arrange private transfers upon request. For guided ancestral tours, a vehicle and driver can also be arranged in advance.

What pre-arrival information is required in order to book?

To ensure the most productive session, all guests must complete a pre-arrival genealogy questionnaire. This will be sent in advance and must be returned prior to the appointment. This enables Folk Finders to carry out preliminary research before the session begins.

Am I guaranteed to receive information from Folk Finders about my family history?

Genealogy is a complex and time-consuming process. While digital tools have made basic searches accessible, in-depth research often takes months and cannot be guaranteed to produce immediate results. The experience is intended as a meaningful introduction to a longer-term journey of discovery.

Will I receive any materials to take home with me?

Depending on the level of research achieved, guests may be able to receive personalised A3 family tree scrolls and printed historical records. These are crafted at the Folk Finders office and may not be available immediately, especially if further research is required.

Will the information be kept confidential?

Yes, all personal and family information shared with Folk Finders will be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality.
